This hand-carved Erebus statue captures the primordial darkness that existed before the gods — a winged figure rising from swirling shadow, carved from solid ash wood and finished with varnish. Standing 8 inches tall, it is an exceptional altar piece for practitioners of Greek paganism, Hellenism, or anyone drawn to the mythology of the deep void. Available in two finishes: natural brown ash and a darker brown-gray stain. Each piece is individually carved in Ukraine.
In Greek cosmogony, Erebus was one of the first entities to emerge from Chaos — the deep darkness that filled the space between the void and the world. He is the personification of primordial shadow, the darkness that lies beneath the earth and through which the dead must pass. With Nyx, the goddess of night, he fathered Aether (the upper air) and Hemera (day) — making darkness itself the parent of light. His name became synonymous with the underworld passage, the place souls travel before reaching Hades. You can explore more of the gods born from Chaos in our Greek statue collection.
