Long before the Spanish arrived in Mesoamerica, Quetzalcoatl soared above the world as the Feathered Serpent — a god who united the earthly and the divine, the serpent of the ground and the quetzal bird of the sky. He was the deity of wind, knowledge, and the morning star, revered by the Aztecs and known to the Maya as Kukulkan. His image — a great serpent crowned with brilliant feathers — is one of the most powerful symbols in all of pre-Columbian mythology. This hand-carved Quetzalcoatl statue is a centrepiece of our Mexican Heritage & Aztec Mythology Statues collection , where the gods of ancient Mesoamerica take form in ecological wood, crafted in Ukraine and finished with lacquer.
Each piece is individually crafted — no two are identical. The feathers are carved with fine detail, ranging from light to dark wood tones to create depth and realism, while the body bears hand-carved symbols drawn from Aztec mythology.

Quetzalcoatl in Aztec & Mayan Mythology
- The Feathered Serpent: Quetzalcoatl’s name combines ‘quetzal’ (the sacred bird) and ‘coatl’ (serpent) — embodying the union of heaven and earth, spirit and matter
- God of Wind & Knowledge: He ruled over wind, sky, and the planet Venus, and was the patron of priests, learning, arts, and civilisation across Aztec and Mayan cultures
- Creator of Humanity: In one of the great Aztec creation myths, Quetzalcoatl descended into the underworld to retrieve the bones of past generations, from which new humans were formed
- Kukulkan of the Maya: Known as Kukulkan among the Maya, he held the same dominion over wind and sky — his descent is celebrated in the famous shadow-serpent phenomenon at Chichén Itzá each equinox
- Symbolism: The feathered serpent represents the harmony between the earthly and the celestial — a reminder that wisdom bridges the world below and the world above
