This hand-carved Herne the Hunter statue is set into a natural cliff-face form — the horned god emerging from the rock itself, bow drawn, a hound at his feet, antlers rising from his head into the stone above. The relief carving is extraordinarily deep, with every feather, muscle, and blade of grass individually worked. Available in two finishes: warm Brown varnished ash wood and a darker Brown-Black antiqued variant. Standing 8 inches tall, each piece is individually carved in Ukraine.
Herne the Hunter is one of the oldest and most mysterious figures in the British Isles — a horned spirit of Windsor Forest first recorded in Shakespeare’s Merry Wives of Windsor, but almost certainly rooted in far older traditions. He is the leader of the Wild Hunt, the ghost who rides through winter storms with a pack of spectral hounds, gathering the souls of the dead. His antlers connect him directly to the ancient archetype of the Horned God — the lord of animals, the master of the hunt, the guardian of the wild places — a figure that appears across the Celtic world most fully in Cernunnos, the antlered god of the forest. In Wiccan theology, Herne and Cernunnos are often treated as aspects of the same divine masculine principle: the god who dies at Samhain and is reborn at Yule, whose cycle mirrors the turning of the year. He is one of the most powerful presences in the broader tradition of Celtic pagan statues, and a natural centrepiece for any altar honouring the wild masculine, the hunt, or the seasonal cycle.
