This hand-carved ash wood statue depicts Tanngrisnir and Tanngnjóstr — the legendary goats of Thor — rendered in rich natural wood with a varnish finish. Standing 9.4 inches tall, it’s a bold and unusual piece for any Norse pagan altar, Viking shelf, or Asatru sacred space. Few figures in Norse mythology carry the raw vitality and mythic weight of Thor’s divine goats, and this carving captures that energy with striking detail.

In Norse mythology, Tanngrisnir (“Teeth-barer”) and Tanngnjóstr (“Teeth-grinder”) are Thor’s immortal goats who pull his chariot across the sky. Each night Thor slaughters them for food, and each morning he resurrects them whole using his hammer Mjölnir — provided no bones are broken. They embody themes of sacrifice, renewal, and the cyclical nature of life, making them powerful symbols for altar work focused on strength, abundance, and regeneration. As animal totems, the goat represents vitality, sure-footedness, and the will to climb where others cannot.
