Long before the Celts gave her a name, the spirit of Aine moved through the hills of Munster — in the warmth of the sun on the fields of Knockainey, in the first blossoms of spring, in the laughter of midsummer fires lit in her honour. She is the Irish goddess of love, light, and the fertile earth; a queen of the Tuatha Dé Danann who rules over the abundance of summer and the renewal of life. Her sacred animals are the deer and the fox, her season is the solstice, and her name — from the Irish ‘aon’ — speaks of unity and the singular force of life itself. This hand-carved Aine statue is part of our Celtic Statues collection , where the gods and goddesses of the ancient Irish world take form in ecological wood, crafted in Ukraine and finished with lacquer.

Each piece is individually crafted — no two are identical.

Aine in Irish Mythology

  • Sun Goddess of Munster: Aine is one of the most beloved goddesses of Irish mythology, associated with the sun, summer, and the fertile land of Munster — her hill, Knockainey in County Limerick, was a sacred site of worship
  • Queen of the Tuatha Dé Danann: She belongs to the divine race of the Tuatha Dé Danann and is sometimes identified as a fairy queen — a liminal figure who moves between the mortal world and the otherworld
  • Goddess of Love & Fertility: Aine governs love, beauty, and the fertility of the land — her blessings were invoked at midsummer fires lit on Knockainey to protect crops and cattle
  • Patroness of Animals: The deer and the fox are her sacred animals, reflecting her deep connection to the wild and untamed natural world
  • Goddess of Summer Solstice: Her cult was centred on fire rituals at the summer solstice and spring equinox — making her a powerful presence for those who honour the turning of the seasons
