Pazuzu in Mesopotamian Mythology
Pazuzu originates in Akkadian and Babylonian mythology of ancient Mesopotamia. Depicted as a winged demon with a lion’s head, serpentine body, and eagle’s talons, he is the god of the southwest wind, storms, and the underworld winds. Though a bringer of chaos, Pazuzu was paradoxically invoked as a protector against other evil spirits and disease — his power wielded as a shield. He embodies the duality of destruction and protection, chaos turned to guardian purpose.
