Isis is the goddess of fertility, magic, and health. She is known as the Queen of the Gods and Mother of the Pharaohs. Isis is the eldest child of the earth god Hebe and the sky goddess Nut. Soon after the birth of the girl, the couple had more heirs: Osiris, Set, and Nephthys. After Osiris was proclaimed the pharaoh of Egypt, the goddess married her younger brother. The name of the goddess was usually interpreted as "the one with thousands of names."
The actual translation from the ancient language of the word "Iset" meant the throne or the royal throne. Most likely, this name is due precisely to the fact that the goddess was endowed with significant power. It was customary to worship her as an exclusively female deity, the patroness of the fair sex, women during pregnancy and childbirth, all motherhood and childhood, as well as fertility, the elements of water and wind, and, of course, magic.
The most famous myth about Isis tells how, after the treacherous murder of Osiris by the envious brother Set, she, after long wanderings, found the pieces of her husband's body scattered by the killer and joined them, creating the first mummy. In Egypt, it was believed that the flooding of the Nile is the tears that Isis sheds about the deceased spouse. With the help of a magic spell, turning into a female kite and spreading her wings over her husband's mummy, she was able to become pregnant from the body of the dead Osiris. Isis gave birth to his son Horus, whom he had to hide from Set in the swamp reeds of the Nile Delta.
As an adult, the god Horus took revenge on his father's destroyer. This myth marks the beginnings of female love and fidelity in Isis. Other legends highlight her wisdom and magical powers. According to legend, Isis was able to get for herself the fundamental principle of magical knowledge: to find out the true name of the father of the gods - the Sun-Ra. From the saliva of Ra himself, Isis created a snake that bit him. Suffering from poison, Ra, in exchange for healing, revealing his secret name to Isis, with whose help you can create any spells and subdue all the mysterious forces of the world. Thanks to this, Isis became famous as the mother of various knowledge, the inventor of medicines, etc. She passed on her magical skills to her son, Horus. Isis was wildly popular in ancient Egypt.
Women, desperate for their children, prayed to her for fertility, people turned to her for magic spells, and many prayed to her for healing and good health. At one point, it is believed that she is the only god worshiped by the whole of Egypt, unlike other gods who had many different names or incarnations.
