About Lelya
The goddess Lelya is the personification of pure love and youth, sincere feelings and bright impulses of the soul, marching through the world together with her faithful companion Yaryla the Sun and awakening nature from a long winter sleep.
Lelya is the daughter of the life-giving force of the universe, the foremother Lada, and the forefather of our world, the supreme god Svarog. Brother Lel helps to spread the reviving power of spring in nature, filling our hearts with warmth and light. Lelya is one of the Rozhanitsa goddesses — the three helpers of the god Rod.
Lelya is the goddess of spring, the daughter of Lada, the goddess of beauty, love and fertility. According to myths, it was inextricably linked with the spring revival of nature, the beginning of field work. The goddess was imagined as a young, beautiful, slim and tall girl. In folklore, Lada is often mentioned alongside Lelya. The two horsewomen on the embroidery, sometimes with a ploughshare behind them, located on either side of Makoshi, are associated with Lada and Leleya.
