She in Scandinavian mythology the sun gоddеss, circling the sky on a chariot drawn by two horses, sister of the month Mani.

Imagining the sun as a gоddеss is not easy: in most pantheons, the daylight appears as a god. But this model is not universal for all cultures. And, in particular, in the Northern tradition, the personification of the healing and life-giving power of the sun is the beautiful , SоІ.

For those who lived in the cold and often harsh climates of northern Europe before modern conveniences, the power of the sun meant survival in the most literal sense of the word. A poor harvest could actually ruin the entire community: despite the stereotypical view of the Vikings as robbers and invaders, the population of Scandinavia consisted mainly of farmers who were completely dependent on the whims of Mother Nature and the favors of SоІ.

In the "Younger Edda" it is reported that once upon a time there lived on earth a man named Mundilfari and he had two children - so beautiful that he dared to name them by the names of heavenly bodies: the daughter - the Sun (SоІ), and the son - the Month (Маnі). Punished him for his pride, taking away his children and putting them as charioteers to the very luminaries in whose honor they were named. Since then, SоІ and Маnі have eternally ruled the chariots of the Sun and Мооn and maintain a uniform course and reckoning of times. It also says that some two giants hated the order imposed on the world by the gоds so much that they turned into two hungry wolves, eternally chasing chariots of luminaries. When Ragnarok comes, the day of the destruction of the world order approved by the gоds, these wolves will overtake and swallow the sun and mооn, and the whole world will plunge into darkness.

The death of the sun and mооn is one of the worst catastrophes that should shake the universe on the eve of or during Ragnarok. Thus, the possible disappearance of Sol carries the most important eschatological meaning. She is one of the pillars of an orderly, holistic, healthy, and normally functioning universe and society. In the Germanic languages, words with the meanings "whole", "healthy", and "sacred" are etymologically closely related to each other. Thus, the sun also gives holiness to the world and turns it into a sanctuary for a healthy community.

She sets the natural pace of life. She determines the daily routine. As a protector and healer, she teaches us to maintain health and wellness even in the midst of a busy life. It is very simple to establish a connection with this undeservedly forgotten gоddеss: break away from your affairs several times a day - at dawn, at the hour when SоІ reaches its zenith, at sunset and at midnight - in order to thank her for her gifts and bathe in the awareness of her Presence ... She can guide you on the path to a healthy balance between work and play, and this, in turn, helps to strengthen spiritual awareness amid the deafening hustle and bustle of our everyday life. In the end, this is precisely one of its main lessons: SоІ teaches us to cultivate a sense of the sanctity of the world - both external and internal. It helps us understand that life is filled with holiness when we begin to allocate our time wisely, consciously, and effectively.

Absolutely gorgeous, even better in person that in the image. Finding images and icons of Mani that fit my personal praxis is always tricky and this one fits the bill perfectly. The statue came super well packaged as well so despite his very very long journey the piece was absolutely pristine.

It's exactly as pictured. What I love about this is how wholesome it is. Loki, looking down over His family like a proud papa and husband. It's a side of Him we don't get to see often.
