Across the sky they run — Hati and Sköll, the great wolves of Norse mythology, forever chasing the sun and moon through the heavens. Sköll pursues Sól, the sun goddess, across the sky each day, while Hati races ahead of the moon, driving the celestial cycle forward. At Ragnarök, they will finally catch their quarry — swallowing the sun and moon and plunging the world into darkness before the new world is born. This hand-carved ash wood statue captures both wolves together in a single, dynamic composition, part of our Norse statues collection , finished with a lacquer that honours every carved detail.
Each piece is individually crafted — no two are identical. The carving renders Hati and Sköll with the fierce, relentless energy of wolves in eternal pursuit — a powerful centrepiece for Norse altar work, wolf totem devotion, or Viking-inspired collection.

Hati and Sköll in Norse Mythology
- Identity: Two great wolves of Norse cosmology — Sköll (“Treachery”) chases the sun goddess Sól across the sky, while Hati (“Hate” or “He Who Hates”) races ahead of the moon, Máni, driving the celestial cycle forward
- Origins: Both wolves are said to be the sons of Fenrir, the great wolf, and grandsons of Loki — born in the iron wood of Járnviðr, where the giantess Angrboða raised a race of wolves
- The eternal chase: Their pursuit of the sun and moon is what drives the passage of day and night — the celestial bodies flee in terror, and it is this fear that keeps the sky in motion
- Ragnarök: At the end of days, Hati and Sköll will finally catch their quarry — swallowing the sun and moon and plunging the world into darkness, one of the great signs that Ragnarök has begun
- Symbolism: Represent the relentless passage of time, the primal forces of chaos that drive the cosmic order, and the wild, untameable power of the wolf in Norse tradition
Ideal For
- Norse pagans and Asatru practitioners honouring the wolf spirits and the forces of Ragnarök
- Wolf totem devotees and collectors of Norse mythological sculpture
- Viking-inspired home and altar decor for lovers of Norse cosmology and the wild power of the wolf
