Samael in Occult Mythology

• Name & Origin: Samael derives from Hebrew — interpreted as "The Venom of God" or "The Hand of God." He appears in Jewish mysticism, Gnostic texts, and Western occultism as one of the most complex and powerful angelic figures in esoteric tradition.
• Appearance: Depicted with great dark wings, horns, and serpents coiling at his feet — a being of immense power standing at the threshold between divine wrath and divine mercy, associated with the Qliphoth and the left pillar of the Kabbalistic Tree of Life.
• Role & Power: Angel of death, divine prosecutor, and guardian of the left pillar of severity. In Gnosticism he is the Demiurge — the blind creator of the material world — while in Jewish mysticism he serves as the accuser and tempter who tests human souls.
• Legends: Said to have tempted Eve in the Garden of Eden in the form of the serpent; associated with Lilith as his consort in Kabbalistic lore; and identified in some texts as the angel who wrestled with Jacob through the night.
