This hand-carved Gaia statue depicts the Greek earth mother as she truly is — not separate from nature but inseparable from it. Her body emerges from the trunk of a great tree, her flowing hair dissolving into roots, her hands cradling the Earth itself. The canopy of the tree spreads wide above her, every leaf individually carved. “GAIA” is inscribed into the plinth at her feet. Standing 8 inches tall, carved from solid ash wood and finished with varnish, each piece is individually made in Ukraine.
Gaia is the primordial goddess of the Earth in Greek cosmology — one of the first beings to emerge from Chaos at the beginning of creation. She is the deep foundation of all life: the soil, the mountains, the seas, and the living world that grows from them. She gave birth to Ouranos (the Sky), the Titans, the Cyclopes, and the Giants, making her the ancestral mother of the entire Greek pantheon. In Hesiod’s Theogony she is not a passive figure but an active force — she conspired with Kronos to overthrow Ouranos, and later with the Giants against Zeus, always acting to protect her children and restore balance. In contemporary Wiccan and pagan practice she is the archetypal Earth Mother, invoked for grounding, fertility, healing, and connection to the living world — the most natural presence on any nature-focused altar. She is the heart of the Gaia statue collection and one of the most beloved figures across the full range of Greek goddess statues.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Gaia statue made of and how big is it?
The Gaia statue is hand-carved from solid ash wood and finished with varnish for lasting protection. It measures 8 in / 20.4 cm tall, 5.7 in / 14.5 cm wide, and 1.4 in / 3.8 cm deep. The tree canopy spreads wide, making this one of the broader pieces in the collection. Each statue is individually carved in Ukraine, so no two are identical.
Who is Gaia in Greek mythology?
Gaia is the primordial goddess of the Earth in Greek cosmology — one of the first beings to emerge from Chaos at the beginning of creation. She is the deep foundation of all life: the soil, the mountains, the seas, and the living world that grows from them. She gave birth to Ouranos (the Sky), the Titans, the Cyclopes, and the Giants, making her the ancestral mother of the entire Greek pantheon. In Hesiod's Theogony she is not a passive figure but an active force — she conspired with Kronos to overthrow Ouranos, always acting to protect her children and restore balance. She is the original Mother Earth.
When and how is a Gaia statue used on a pagan or Wiccan altar?
Gaia is one of the most versatile altar presences in pagan and Wiccan practice — she is appropriate year-round as the embodiment of the living Earth. She is especially powerful at Ostara (spring equinox), Beltane, and Litha, when the earth is at its most fertile and alive. Place her statue on a nature altar with offerings of soil, seeds, flowers, or green candles. She is invoked for grounding, healing, fertility, environmental connection, and any working tied to the cycles of the natural world. She pairs naturally with Persephone, Demeter, and other earth and nature goddesses.
