This hand-carved wooden sculpture honours the gods of the moon and sun through the rich symbolic language of Celtic and druidic tradition. Crafted from ecological ash wood with a protective varnish finish, it is filled with layered mythological imagery — foxes, bats, serpents, sacred trees, and celestial symbols — each carrying deep meaning for practitioners of Celtic paganism, Wicca, and druidry.

Each piece is individually hand-carved — no two are identical.

Symbolism

The foxes represent spirit guides to the seelie and unseelie paths, honouring the duality of light and dark within all nature. They also show the Lord and Lady’s connection to the fae — travelling to the twilight faerie realm or the underworld.

The bat above the Lady’s hand represents her magic over the underworld and her ability to gift spirit flight. In Celtic mythology, the bat symbolises major life changes, courage, seeing the unseen, and the ability to travel between the three realms.

The serpent in Celtic tradition represents wisdom, spiritual awareness, underworld energy, rebirth, and healing. The ram-horned serpent appears on historical artefacts such as the Gundestrup Cauldron. The druids of Gaul believed the serpent symbolised Nwyfre — a primordial life-giving force flowing through all things, the invisible connective energy of the universe.

The sacred trees — oak, ash, and hawthorn — each carry their own power: the oak symbolises strength, wisdom, and endurance; the ash symbolises fire, healing, balance, and enchantment; the hawthorn symbolises faerie magic, love, protection, and sacred marriage.

Additional symbols woven throughout include the faerie star, the torc, and a moon gate — making this a deeply layered piece for those who know how to read its language.

A powerful altar centrepiece for Celtic pagan and druidic practice, and a meaningful gift for mythology collectors, Wiccan practitioners, and lovers of sacred symbolic art.

Frequently Asked Questions

What size is the Cernunnos statue and what is it made from?

The Cernunnos statue measures 8.2" / 21 cm tall, 7.4" / 19 cm wide, and 2.3" / 6 cm deep. It is hand-carved from ecological ash wood with a varnish finish.

Who is Cernunnos in Celtic and Norse mythology?

Cernunnos is the ancient Celtic Horned God of nature, wild animals, fertility, and the cycle of life and death. Depicted with stag antlers and a serpent, he appears on the Gundestrup Cauldron and Iron Age artefacts across Gaul and Britain. He presided over the turning of the seasons and the liminal space between the living world and the realm of the dead.

How can I use a Cernunnos statue on a pagan or Wiccan altar?

Cernunnos is especially honoured at Beltane, making this statue a powerful centrepiece for seasonal rituals celebrating fertility and the wild. Place him at the centre of a nature altar alongside antlers, greenery, or candles in green and gold. He also works beautifully year-round on altars dedicated to animal spirits, forest magic, or the cycle of the seasons.
