In Japanese mythology, the Inugami is one of the most complex and fascinating creatures in the entire world of yōkai. The word itself tells you everything: inu — dog, kami — deity or spirit. The Inugami is a dog that has become divine — or a spirit that has chosen the form of a dog. It can be a faithful protector, bound to a family across generations, guarding the household from evil and bringing good fortune to those it favours.
