This hand-carved Anu wooden statue embodies the image of the mighty sky god of Sumerian mythology — ruler of the gods, lord of the heavens, and patron of all living things. Depicted in a statuesque stance with his right hand raised in a gesture of power and protection, Anu wears traditional Sumerian ceremonial robes and jewellery and stands upon a symbolic pedestal that emphasises his supreme authority in the Mesopotamian pantheon. Carved from solid natural ash wood with a protective varnish finish, this sculpture is a striking piece of ancient mythology decor.

Each piece is individually hand-carved — no two are identical. Available in dark brown, brown, or multicolor.

Anu in Sumerian Mythology

Supreme sky god: Anu (also known as An) was one of the most important deities in the Sumerian pantheon — the ruler of the gods, lord of the sky, and the cosmic authority over heaven and earth. His name literally means “sky” or “heaven” in Sumerian.

Father of the gods: Anu was considered the father of the Anunnaki — the great divine assembly of Mesopotamian gods — and the source of divine kingship. Sumerian rulers derived their legitimacy from his authority.

Intermediary between worlds: He acted as a bridge between the celestial realm and the earth, and also held authority over the underworld, serving as a judge of the dead and arbiter of cosmic order.

Symbol of power & wisdom: Often depicted as an ancient, bearded figure of great wisdom, Anu personified stability, order, and the enduring authority of the cosmos. His cult was venerated across all the great cities of ancient Mesopotamia.

A powerful addition to Mesopotamian mythology collections, ancient civilisation displays, or ritual altar spaces. A meaningful gift for history enthusiasts, mythology collectors, and those drawn to the ancient Near East.
