This hand-carved Anubis statue is cut from solid ecological ash wood by skilled artisans in Ukraine — a striking altar piece for those who work with the Egyptian god of death, embalming, and the weighing of the heart. Each piece is individually carved and finished with varnish; no two are identical.

Anubis — Guardian of the Dead

Anubis is one of the oldest deities in the Egyptian pantheon, predating the unification of Egypt itself. Jackal-headed and black-furred — black not as a symbol of evil but of the fertile Nile silt and the regeneration it promises — he is the god who presides over the transition between life and death. It was Anubis who performed the first mummification, reassembling the body of Osiris after Set dismembered him and wrapping it in the first funerary rites. Every mummification that followed was a repetition of that original sacred act.

In the Hall of Two Truths, Anubis places the heart of the deceased on one side of the golden scale and the feather of Ma'at on the other. If the heart is lighter than the feather — if the life was lived in truth — Anubis leads the soul to Osiris and the Field of Reeds. He is not a god of punishment. He is a god of honest reckoning, and of the mercy that follows it. Among the Egyptian gods, he is the one who stands closest to the human experience of death — present at every burial, every tomb, every moment of crossing.

About ArtCarving Shop

Every statue in our collection is hand-carved from ecological ash wood by skilled artisans in our Ukrainian workshop. No mass production — each piece is individually made, finished by hand, and unique.

Care

Wipe clean with a dry cloth. Keep away from prolonged direct sunlight and moisture to preserve the varnish finish.

Anubis does not judge — he weighs. The judgment belongs to Ma'at, to the feather, to the truth of what you have lived. If his presence speaks to you, this statue belongs on your altar.

Frequently Asked Questions

What size is the Anubis statue and what material is it made from?

The Anubis statue is hand-carved from ecological ash wood with a varnish finish. It measures 8 in / 20.5 cm tall, 5.7 in / 14.5 cm wide, and 1.7 in / 4.5 cm deep.

Who is Anubis and what is his role in Egyptian mythology?

Anubis is the jackal-headed Egyptian god of death, embalming, and the afterlife — one of the oldest deities in the Egyptian pantheon. He performed the first mummification, guards the dead in their tombs, and weighs the heart of the deceased against the feather of Ma'at in the Hall of Two Truths. He is the guide of souls through the Duat to judgment and, if they pass, into the presence of Osiris.

How do I use an Anubis statue on my altar?

Place the Anubis statue as the centrepiece of your altar with black and gold candles, obsidian, and offerings of water, bread, or incense (frankincense or myrrh). Invoke him for ancestor work, protection of the dying, shadow work involving mortality and transformation, and justice work. He is particularly honoured at Samhain and at the dark moon.
