Abraxas (also Abrasax, from the Greek Ἀβρασάξ) is the supreme cosmological deity of Gnostic tradition — the Head of Heaven and all Aeons, said to personify the unity of World Time and Space. The name carries deep numerological significance: the seven Greek letters sum to 365, encoding the full solar year within the name itself. This teaching originates with Basilides of Alexandria, a 2nd-century Gnostic philosopher who held that Abraxas governed 365 heavens. In Jungian psychology, Abraxas later became a symbol of the reconciliation of all opposites — the god that encompasses both light and shadow, beyond conventional categories of good and evil.
