Archangel Michael is a character whose image appears in Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. According to the Christian religion, this hero is at the head of the Holy Host, consisting of angels and archangels, therefore he was given the title of the archangel and revered by the Church as a defender of the faith, a fighter against heresies and all evil. On the icons, he is depicted with a fiery sword in his hand, or with a spear overthrowing the devil. The name "Michael" has several translations. The most popular ones are "One God" and "Nobody Like God".
Church tradition claims that the Lord created a myriad of angels at the beginning of time. At the head of the angelic host was put Lucifer Dennitsa, who later revolted and turned into Satan. Archangel Michael had to fight with Dennitsa, after which Lucifer was overthrown from Heaven. Since then, the holy army has been led by the archangels Gabriel and Michael.
According to the Apocryphal Book of Adam and Eve, Michael closely followed the couple after they were expelled from Eden. He taught Adam farming and convinced God to allow Adam's soul to return to Heaven after Adam died.
Ancient tradition says that Michael informed Sarah, Abraham's wife, that she would give birth to a son. And although he is not called by name, it is believed that it was Michael who was the "Angel of the Lord" who stopped Abraham from sacrificing his son Isaac.
