Freya in Norse Mythology

• Name & Origin: Freya (also Freyja) means "Lady" in Old Norse — she is the foremost goddess of the Vanir, the Norse pantheon of fertility and magic, and one of the most beloved deities in the Norse tradition.
• Appearance: Depicted as a radiant, golden-haired goddess wearing the legendary necklace Brísinga men, a cloak of falcon feathers, and riding a chariot pulled by two great cats — a being of breathtaking beauty and formidable power.
• Role & Power: Goddess of love, beauty, fertility, gold, war, and death. She practices Seiðr — the most powerful form of Norse magic — and receives half of all warriors slain in battle into her hall Fólkvangr.
• Legends: She wept tears of red gold when searching for her lost husband Óðr; she taught Seiðr magic to Odin himself; and she was so desired that the giants repeatedly attempted to claim her as a prize.
• Symbolism: The cat, the falcon, gold, amber, and the rune Fehu — representing abundance, desire, magic, and the fierce independence of the divine feminine.
