This hand-carved Bragi statue depicts the Norse god of poetry as a lean, powerful skald leaning into a great harp — his body and the instrument bound together by flowing knotwork tendrils, every harp string individually carved from solid ash wood. “BRAGI” is inscribed in runes along the plinth. Standing 8 inches tall, each piece is individually carved in Ukraine and finished with varnish.

Bragi is the god of skaldic poetry, eloquence, and song in the Norse pantheon — the divine voice of Asgard, whose words could move gods and mortals alike. Son of Odin and the giantess Gunnlöð, he was born on a boat drifting toward the realm of the dead, where he took up a harp given to him by the dwarves and sang a song so beautiful it reached both the heavens and the underworld. The gods of Asgard heard it and invited him to their halls, where he became the eternal skald at Odin’s feasts, singing the praises of gods and the heroes of Valhalla. His wife was Iunn, keeper of the golden apples of immortality, making Bragi inseparable from the themes of life, beauty, and the preservation of divine memory. Toasts were drunk in his honour at every feast and memorial gathering across the Norse world — the “Bragi cup” was a sacred pledge of great deeds. He is one of the most poetic and distinctive figures in the full Norse mythology statue collection, and a rare and meaningful presence among the broader range of Viking statues in the collection.
