Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe is the image of the Virgin Mary, the most revered shrine in Latin America. In the Catholic Church, it is worshiped miraculously.
Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe is the patroness of all unborn children.
According to Catholic legend, a medieval Mexican peasant, Juan Diego, was once seen by a vision of a young, beautiful woman in rich clothes while he was on a hill in the desert near Mexico City.
The Mother of God who appeared told the peasant to turn to the Franciscan Bishop Juan de Sumarraga. Juan Diego did so, but the bishop did not believe him. The Holy Virgin, according to legend, had to appear to Juan Diego three more times and as a result, give the peasant and the bishop a "sign from above" to convince them of her divinity.
After several meetings with the skeptical bishop, Nuestra Señora undertook to provide evidence. During the fourth meeting with Juan Diego, she told him to collect the Castilian roses that grew on the stones, wrap them in his cape and take them to the bishop.
When Juan Diego brought a cloak with roses to the bishop and opened it, the roses fell at the feet of the hierarch, and the image of Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe appeared on the fabric of the cloak. This convinced everyone.
