Mythological Background

The Phoenix is a legendary bird known for its power to ignite itself and then be reborn from its own ashes. In Greek, “phoenix” means crimson or purple, referencing its radiant golden-red plumage. It was revered as a symbol of purity, immortality, cosmic cycles, and renewal.

According to ancient myths, the Phoenix lived as a single unique creature. When its life approached the end, it built a nest of fragrant branches atop a sacred tree, ignited it, and perished in the flames. From the ashes, a new Phoenix emerged and carried the remains of its predecessor to the altar of the Sun.

The legend traces its roots to ancient Egypt and India. In Heliopolis, the Phoenix was associated with the solar cult and symbolized the sun’s daily journey, the flooding of the Nile, the passing of eras, and the soul’s passage into the afterlife. As a creature of fire and light, it represented continuous development, transformation, and the cyclical nature of time.
