This hand-carved Borr statue depicts the father of Odin as a warrior of immense power — horned helmet on his head, a great Viking axe raised overhead in both hands, legs planted wide on a rocky outcrop. Dense knotwork spirals across the entire cylindrical body of the piece, and “BORR” is inscribed in runes along the plinth. The top is open to hold a pillar candle, making this both a mythological sculpture and a functional altar centrepiece. Carved from solid ash wood and finished with varnish, each piece is individually made in Ukraine.

Börr — son of Búri, the first of the Aesir — stands at the very root of the Norse divine genealogy. He married Bestla, daughter of the giant Bolthorn, and together they fathered the three brothers who would shape the cosmos: Odin, Vili, and Vé. In the Prose Edda, it is these three sons who slay the primordial giant Ymir and from his body form the world — his flesh becoming the earth, his blood the seas, his bones the mountains, his skull the sky. Börr himself is rarely described in detail in the surviving sources, but his role is foundational: without him there is no Odin, no creation, no Nine Worlds. He represents the primal masculine force from which the entire Norse mythology statue tradition flows — the ancestor of gods, the origin point of the Aesir. For collectors drawn to the deep roots of the Norse pantheon, he is a rare and powerful presence, a natural companion to any piece in the broader Viking statue collection.
